All Saints Day – In November, our first grade students host a program in honor of All Saints Day. They come adorned as their favorite saint and process before the entire school.
Art Festival - An annual event held in spring when everyone has an opportunity to view and participate in various arts and crafts, glass molding, dancing, quilting, needlework, short plays, music, martial arts, and many other activities. The festival invites artists and crafters from our Tidewater community to exhibit their artwork, sell some products and demonstrate their techniques. It provides an opportunity for students to view different styles of art, dance and music. Both students and parents are encouraged to attend.
Back to School Nights - During the first two weeks of school, evenings are scheduled from 7:00 to 8:30 PM for parents to meet our teachers.
Band & Choir Concerts – Periodically throughout the year, our band and choir perform for the school and the parents. Check your calendars to be sure you don't miss these talented students make beautiful music.
Book Fair – During October, we sponsor a Scholastic Book Fair in our library. It begins on Friday during Parent/Teacher Conference Day. Each class is scheduled a time during the following week to visit the book fair and make purchases.
8th Grade Carnival – Our 8th grade students come together to host a carnival for the entire school to attend. They have various games, snacks and prizes for the students to purchase at a nominal fee.
Career Day – A Career Day is held in spring each year. Among other things, representatives from careers in the sciences, engineering, medicine, construction, the military and restaurant and food preparation speak to the students about how math is relevant in their everyday jobs.
Catholic Schools Week – At the end of January, we open our doors to invite current and prospective families to walk through the school. It is an ideal opportunity to see all we have to offer our students, visit with teachers at the next grade level, and celebrate Catholic Education.
Chance and Auction - This is an affordable night out in the spring for parents, parishioners, and friends of St. Gregory the Great School. $30 per ticket provides admission, dinner, and free beverages throughout the evening. In addition, there will be chances for basket prizes and a silent auction.
Christmas Bazaar – After Thanksgiving, students are given an opportunity to shop for family and friends at our Annual Christmas Bazaar. A 'mini mall" is set up on campus and staffed by volunteer parents who help each child choose the perfect gifts. The items are priced nominally to allow the students to purchase something for everyone on their list.
Christmas Presentation – In December, our students have a special program when they perform carols and present the Christmas story. We encourage our families to come out and listen to the sounds of children singing holiday songs.
Daddy & Daughter Dance – In February, the Athletic Association, Knights of Columbus and Men's Club sponsor a special dance for Dads and their Daughters. We welcome Dads and Daughters of all ages to join us in a fun and magical evening featuring a delicious dinner, raffle and prizes in addition to live music.
Designer Bag Bingo - This is a new event at St. Gregory's. Twenty bingo games are played, each with a Coach or Vera Bradley handbag for the winner. Special games are played for designer bag sets.
Grandparents Day - In April, grandparents are invited to spend the afternoon with their grandchildren. The program begins with a short gathering in church, then touring the school, posing for a family photo and partaking in some refreshments.
Marian Manor – Our school enjoys a lovely partnership with the residents at Marian Manor, an assisted living center adjacent to the school. Our students visit them at various times during the year. It can range from the Pre-K students singing songs to the middle school students talking to them about what it was like to be around 50 years ago. The spirit of our students is there everyday with our displays of student artwork for the residents to enjoy as they walk through the building.
May Procession – In May, our school participates in a prayer service in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We welcome our families to join us in this special celebration.
Meet the Teacher Day - An afternoon is scheduled the week before school begins to provide an opportunity for all students to meet their teachers in an informal setting.
New Family Night - held a few weeks before the opening of school, this is an opportunity for new families to become acquainted with all aspects of our school.
The Saints Ball - This elegant black tie event is held in November to a capacity gathering of local business supporters, parishioners and parents. Everyone enjoys fellowship, dinner, and dancing to live music. With a unique silent auction and an engaging live auction, there is something for everyone. You won't want to miss this annual event.
St. Gregory's Got Talent – Every spring, the students (and if we're lucky, the teachers) come together to share their talents with the entire school. Parents are welcome to join us.
Santa Breakfast - Saint Nick will make a special appearance in early December for the young and the young at heart. He brings many of his lively elves to make this a magical morning for the entire family. Enjoy breakfast, crafts, a family raffle and a private photo with Santa.
Super Saints Raffle - Buy a ticket for a chance to win a monetary prize every day during the month of November.
Trick or Trunk - Families, teams, or individuals can register their vehicle in a lively decorating competition right in our church parking lot. Showcase your Halloween masterpiece for everyone to judge the best in show. Don't forget the Trick or Treat candy for the little one.
